Palm Springs Animal Shelter Recognition Reception

August 27th, 2015

Attended a Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter cocktail party honoring volunteers, donors and others in recognition of their contributions benefiting the shelter and its animals. The event started last evening at 7 pm in the Community Services Room and lasted about an hour. Volunteers poured an array of beverages ranging from water to wine that went well with the delicious appetizers prepared by vegan chef Tanya Petrovna.

In addition to the volunteers, honorees and guests, the shelters’ Dr. Shayda Ahkami DVM, Director of Shelter and Veterinary Services along with many of the board members were also present. I am uncertain which ones I saw so will list all (Stephen S. Boyd, President, Tamara Hedges, Vice President, Andrew Harker, Treasurer, Kathy Hart, Secretary, Ginny Foat, Carl Johnson, Dr. Douglas Kunz, DVM, Bill Ruttan and Keith Zabel). Special thanks to board vice president Tamara Hedges and Director of Development & Marketing Alicia Bailey who made the event a special one for me and my guests.

My guests for the evening were Donna Cawley and her mother Lorraine Olson, Christine Hammond & Sly Zelnys, Dorothy Long, Alice Rand Moiola, Andrea Owad, Nancy Robinson, and Glenn Sweeney. We were there in remembrance of my little doggy “Princess” Camo who passed away in May. I’d made a donation to the shelter in her memory and a new Blade Sign was being placed over one of the kennels commemorating my 16 years with her.

The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is a city-owned facility that’s managed under contract by the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. They provide fundraising, volunteers and general management guidance and support for the shelter and its animals. The newly constructed shelter building opened on October 22, 2011, as a state-of-the-art “no-kill” care facility for dogs, cats and other animals. It’s a very special place because of the love and devotion exhibited by all who are involved in its operations. If it’s possible to accurately state that a majority of the world’s really sweet, nice, warm and supportive individuals are located in one place, then the Palm Springs Animal Shelter would certainly be a contender for recognition. I’m convinced that a world populated by animal lovers who possess the love and devotion exhibited by those here would be one at peace and a safe and pleasant world for all.
