Coachella Valley Recycled Water Myth

March 27th, 2015

Today I learned that Recycled Water in Coachella Valley consists of more than just wastewater that’s been cleansed and made available for non-potable second use. According to an online report from KESQ  TV it appears the local Desert Water Agency in Palm Springs adds fresh water to the wastewater mix and that’s their version of “recycled”. Read the KESQ report using the link below.

It leaves me with several questions.

  • Is recycled water sold for a cheaper rate than fresh water customers pay?
  • Do Recycled Water customers adhere to any water conservation standards?
  • When local water agencies boast that valley water customers have met the 20% water reduction goal, did any part of that “reduction” occur as a result of fresh water customers switching monitored fresh water to unreported Recycled Water status?

Among the Hillary Haters

March 19th, 2015

“Among the Hillary Haters”

Does anyone remember the “Troopergate” untruthful dirty political rumor attack launched by GOP operatives against Bill Clinton in 1993? Arkansas state troopers claimed they had arranged sexual liaisons for then-governor Clinton. The troopers and their story have since been discredited by the American Spectator reporter who has since admitted “the exposé based on the troopers was politically motivated” and “The troopers were greedy and had slimy motives.”
(Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troopergate_%28Bill_Clinton%29)

How about another GOP operative smear campaign – this one titled “Swift Boat” conducted by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth against against US Presidential Candidate John Kerry in 2004? They succeeded in ruining the reputation of a genuine Vietnam war hero thereby discrediting his presidential campaign.

Well – we won’t have to wait long before the GOP smear teams fill the our various public media sources with similar and perhaps more carefully planned attacks on (not yet announced) presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The Atlantic Magazine has a great story (it’s rather long) about the history of past GOP smear campaigns and shares insight into what’s already being planned against Ms. Clinton.

It’s really a shame there’s little honor in these national races. I realize it’s always been that way dating back to the beginning of our Republic. Nevertheless, the average citizen shouldn’t have to keep dark glasses and fresh air scent nearby whenever they are exposed to political messages. It’s really a damn shame!

Griffith Observatory Motor Coach Tour

March 11th, 2015

Spent the day as part of an A.C.T. motor coach tour group of the Griffith Observatory In Los Angeles’ Griffith Park (named after philanthropist donor Col. Griffith J. Griffith). The observatory was built in 1935 and underwent major renovation starting in 2002 that continued until its 2006 reopening. The facility was intended and continues to be a place for people to learn about astronomy and to view the stars and learn something about them. Our group spent approximately three hours there and could have spent a day or longer in order to see all that the facility has to offer.

The photo is of my friend Andrea and I seated adjacent to a statute of Albert Einstein. The finger of the great scientist in the photo illustrates the small area of the universe visible to us from Earth.

Nikola Tesla (1856 – 1943) was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system (sourced from Wikipedia). The photo is one I took of a Tesla lightning display housed in the Observatory.

The Griffith Observatory tour was quite informative, it’s one I recommend and a place to which I plan to soon return.
